Riva is a special project for its members. Jason Filyaw and Todd Petreins have been playing together in numerous bands since 1990, Dave Raphael has been recording them since the beginning. The band benefits from the chemistry that can only be achieved over a 15 year working relationship. Over the course of several bands and many years, the three members always wished there was a cool place to record having failed in other studios along the way spending countless dollars, never properly capturing the moment and feeling outside management pressure every step along the way. In 2001 Raphael founded Glide On Fade, Inc., and established a studio to realize the goals the band had thus far been unsuccessful at achieving. Finally there was a place to hang out, write and record on their own terms. Keeping the entire recording and record label process in-house, amongst themselves, Riva shows a certain pride, care and freedom often absent from other projects. With that in mind Riva discarded the notion of big industry and locked themselves away to focus on their own undisturbed, undiluted version of great rock recordings. What Riva offers is not the version of their music that a record label thought would be appropriate for the masses but simply stated, the version of their music that they thought was cool, period.
